Experience Community CIC is the not-for-profit part of our work that provides films and information about walks and other leisure activities for disabled people and the wider community. As different people have varying abilities we don’t say what is or isn’t accessible, we simply provide information so that you can decide if the activity is suitable for your needs. We hope that through providing videos you can assess exactly what the walk or activity has to offer. In addition to this, we also provide written information, maps, photos and links to other websites so that you can really get a grasp of what to expect.
Bearing all of this in mind, it’s important that you watch the films of the places that you’re interested in visiting and look at the other relevant information to make sure it’s going to be a good experience for you.
The charitable side of our work us undertaken through our Foundation which organises subsidised Taster Sessions, Rambles and Rides using the different pieces of equipment that we have available for our participants. Our drop-in sessions (Tuesdays from 11am – 3pm) are open days at our offices in Slaithwaite, Huddersfield where people can use Mountain Trikes and adapted cycles to access the Huddersfield Narrow Canal.
We also run Taster Sessions at Pugneys Country Park, Wakefield and Langsett Reservoir, Barnsley once a month on a Thursday and fortnightly rambles around the north of England. These sessions and rambles help build peer support communities so people can make new friends and learn from each others’ experiences.
Although these sessions are part of the Experience Community Charitable Foundation we do ask for a financial contribution from our participants as the money raised helps us continue our work and maintain our fleet of equipment. However, we do try to keep this as low as possible and our activities start from as little as £10.00 per person.
